Wk4 May 19 Rev. 21:1-17-------------------New heaven and earth “Behold, I am making all things new.” Is He talking about the 2020 election or the success of efforts for social justice, resolution of racial tension and the reversal of climate change? Nope, He is not. It’s much bigger than that, it is more enduring than that and much more practical. Not a flash in the pan or temporary fix. Even with the eye on the future the present is given hope, peace and real love. The comfort is for all with hope that enlivens today. The common issue that effects all mankind is resolved in an unimaginable way. Join us at St. John’s Lutheran Church this Sunday at 9am for a message of comfort for that transforms life now and in the hereafter. Previous sermons found at www.stjohns-port.com
Now that's good
May 5 Rev. 5:1-14 The Scroll and the Lamb Who is worthy to enter into the presence of God. Some teach what we need to do in order to be worthy to enter heaven. In our heart we know it, or spend a great deal of energy denying it. Comfort comes in Revelation, salvation is not an achievement of man but it is a gift from God in His Son Jesus. From the very beginning salvation has been by God's grace. The Lamb (Jesus Christ) was indeed worthy and in fact has made the atonement. In this world of sorrow relief is granted in the Gospel. Many today put great emphasis on “good self-esteem” but what do we do with the negative message from that voice in our head? It is silenced in the glory of the Lamb. Think about it.
While preparing for tonight’s sermon ran across Luther’s statements regarding how long Joseph suffered in Egypt. He was pointing out how Joseph’s faith is exemplary standing up through decades of suffering. Luther gives this advice as we go through these “gray and later days” LSB 834. From such examples, however, have flowed those remarkable exhortations in the psalms and in the prophets. “Wait for the Lord; be strong” (Ps. 27:14). Likewise: “If it seem slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay” (Hab. 2:3). Likewise: “Then you will know that I am the Lord; those who wait for Me shall not be put to shame” (Is. 49:23). The weak flesh says: “It is lasting too long. Help is delayed for five, 10, or 20 years; and no end of the trial is in sight.” But remember that you have the promise and have God as your Friend and Father. Out of His boundless mercy and grace He has promised that He will care for you in a fatherly manner. You are to be His dear son; He, the Father; you, the son. “And yet nothing happens,” says the flesh. I reply: “Wait with all the saints, and at last what Christ promises will come to pass: ‘He who endures to the end will be saved’ ” (Matt. 24:13). Even though I appear to be a patient man I am not. Be still and know I am God.
This is really good, a bit long but very much worth the effort.
New Church Sign! Thanks Don.
